"what": "A row of esoteric stalls inside the Gamarra clothing district of La Victoria, Lima, along Avenida Aviación. Medicinal plants, bottled preparations in coloured glass, amulets, incense, black and white candles, and sprays sold for money. Readers work the same aisle, taking tarot and palm.",
"story": "Gamarra is Lima's garment quarter — blocks of textile workshops and wholesalers — and the esoteric market sits inside it rather than apart from it. Daniela Ramos described the trade for Nexos, the Universidad de Lima's magazine, on 31 October 2024: herbalists, curanderos and readers working side by side, a reader named Timbaya among them, selling plants, potions, amulets and cleansings.\n\nThe prices in that account are worth recording with their date. Herbal remedies at 10 to 30 soles; a potion for attracting love at 30; a tarot reading from 10 up to 120; an energy cleansing at 1,200. All in Peruvian soles, in October 2024.\n\nWhat customers ask for is not what the market's name implies. Ramos reports that money, not love, is the most common request — prosperity formulas outsell love potions at the stalls she stood at.\n\n*Inference —* an esoteric market inside a garment wholesaling district is a market serving traders, not tourists. Ramos's account is of a working aisle in a working quarter; this project has read no visitor survey and does not claim one.",
