The fragment of the wording that circulates says \"thousands of pounds of chicken wings are consumed by Buffalonians in restaurants and taverns throughout the city each week\" — a claim about how much the city was already eating, thirteen years after the night the Anchor Bar dates its invention to.\n\n*Inference —* the date has no argument attached to it, which is probably why it spread. A proclamation that honours one man in one bar became a national date that any restaurant can mark, and the chains that mark it with a free-wing offer have no stake in who invented the wing.\n\nThe full proclamation text is not in this project's sources. Two pages carry the same quoted fragment and the same mayor's name: a Buffalo radio station's account from 29 July 2020 and the site that promotes the day.",
