The Private Hospitals Association was founded in 1984, began with eight members and now has 48, and started appearing at international medical travel conferences after United States development support from October 2007.\n\nThe counts everybody quotes are from that period and have not been replaced. More than 250,000 patients from other countries were treated in Jordan in 2007 — about 45,000 Iraqis, 25,000 Palestinians, 25,000 Sudanese, 1,800 Americans, 1,200 Britons and 400 Canadians — and a similar figure with revenues above a billion dollars is given for 2008. The World Bank ranked Jordan the leading medical travel destination in the Middle East and North Africa.\n\n*Inference —* those figures are approaching two decades old and their method is not stated on the page that carries them.
