"what": "For cancer, the whole prostate and the seminal vesicles are removed and the bladder rejoined to the urethra — increasingly through a robotic console, with four nights on the Bangkok package read for this record. For benign enlargement, the obstructing tissue is shaved away from inside through the urethra, with three nights on the same hospital's list. Continence and erectile function are the outcomes that decide whether the operation was a good one, and no price page read here mentions either.",
"story": "The gap between the two operations is the first thing the price list shows. Bumrungrad publishes robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy at 1,014,000 baht, package ROBOTIC05, and transurethral resection of the prostate at 216,000 baht under either general anaesthesia or a spinal block. Nearly five to one, for two operations on one organ.\n\nThe radical package buys five hours of theatre, four nights in a single room, biopsy of three specimens, and the surgeon, assistant, anaesthetist and pathologist. It excludes outpatient charges and anything before the operation, consultations with other specialists, blood transfusion, laboratory and imaging before and after, stays beyond four days or in intensive care, take-home medication — and, unusually, the daily ward round: \"Charges for admission physician fees, daily round physician fees and discharge summary fee\" sit on the exclusion list. The cheaper cholecystectomy package at the same hospital includes one day of ward rounds; the million-baht one does not.\n\nThe payer versions are a different shape again. Ireland's admitted-patient price for DRG M01B, major male pelvic interventions at minor complexity — the group a radical prostatectomy falls in — is EUR 19,899, and EUR 26,820 at major complexity; a transurethral prostatectomy, M02B, is EUR 8,363. Australia's schedule pays the surgeon $1,907.25 for item 37210, radical prostatectomy with nerve sparing where clinically indicated, and leaves the hospital to bill the rest.\n\n*Inference —* a foreign patient reading the Thai figure against the Irish one is reading a five-hour theatre slot with four nights against a whole Irish admission at a fifth of the price. Neither number says anything about how many of these operations the surgeon did last year, which is the figure the literature associates with continence and which nobody publishes on a price page.",
"how": "Radical: general anaesthesia, six small ports, the gland freed from the bladder neck and the urethra, nerves spared where the cancer allows, the specimen removed through an enlarged port, the bladder sewn to the urethra, a catheter left in for a week or two. That catheter is the detail that decides travel — it comes out after the flight home, or it does not come out at all until a second appointment abroad.\n\nTURP: spinal or general anaesthesia, a resectoscope through the urethra, the obstructing tissue shaved and washed out, a catheter and irrigation for a day or two, three nights on the package read here.\n\nBoth are elective in the sense that they wait. NHS England reported a median wait of 12.0 weeks across all pathways at the end of July 2026 and 111,379 people waiting more than 52 weeks; Ireland counted 115,450 waiting for an inpatient or day-case appointment at the end of May 2026. Those are the queues this operation's foreign prices are read against.",
"today": "As of 17 September 2026 the published Thai package price for robotic radical prostatectomy is 1,014,000 baht with four nights, against 216,000 baht for a transurethral resection with three. Ireland's admitted-patient price for the major pelvic group is EUR 19,899 at minor complexity, and the Australian schedule fee for the surgeon's service is $1,907.25.",

The eighty-four days is the median wait of 12.0 weeks across all pathways waiting to start treatment in England at the end of July 2026, published by NHS England — an all-specialty median for the English market, not a urology figure. The ten-day figure is the CDC's guidance not to fly for ten days after abdominal surgery. Six weeks is the span usually quoted before heavy lifting; continence and potency take longer and are not published by any source read here.",
