A fixed-price bundle that names three ward nights and a hotel week is selling a trip shorter than the interval the CDC names for chest or abdominal surgery, and the difference is made up by the patient booking the return flight before the surgeon has seen the wound at a week.\n\n*Trade practice —* the fit-to-fly letter is the instrument that resolves this in practice: a signed note from the operating team saying the patient may board. It is issued by the party whose ward night ends when the patient leaves, which is the structural problem with it, and no register of such letters exists anywhere.\n\nThe Aerospace Medical Association's medical guidelines for air travel are the standing reference the CDC points to for travel with particular conditions.",
