About a thousand were planted from the Nawarat Bridge to the provincial line under Chao Phraya Surasi, dated 20 October 1882 by Thai PBS and by a telegram of 1900 in Thai Wikipedia; the two dates are not reconciled in any source on this disk. Infill planting in 1954; a protected-environment zone 40 m each side since 2015; storm damage in 2016. Counts of the surviving trees run from 800 to 900.",
  "story": "A Mae Jo poll in October 2020, 403 respondents: 54 percent said the trees were not a problem, 61 percent wanted them conserved, 4 percent wanted them removed, and of the critics 59 percent cited branches over the traffic.\n\n*Inference —* the Superhighway of 1969 was built to take the Bangkok traffic off this road, and the thesis this rests on says traffic on it fell sharply as a result. The trees are alive partly because a bypass was built past them. That is the clearest case on this site of a new road doing an old one a favour."
