organisationThe Veiqia Project

Fijian women artists, taking the practice back out of the archive

2,015 – 2,026 · From the mid-2010s

What it is

The collective of Fijian women artists who researched veiqia in collections and archives and brought the practice back.

The long version

The research problem was that the practice ended around 1910 with one named practitioner. The material was in museums, in nineteenth-century accounts, and on objects. The project worked from those and from Fijian women's own reading of them.
