A hereditary title, still held

What it is

The Samoan master-tattooist titles, held in two families, and carried into the present by name.

The long version

Su'a Sulu'ape Paulo II's work and life were photographed by Mark Adams; his brother Su'a Sulu'ape Petelo works at Faleasi'u on Upolu. The titles are hereditary and the tufuga who hold them have tattooed Tongan and Fijian chiefly families as well as Samoan ones.
