What it is
The Kalinga mambabatok everyone has heard of, tapping in Buscalan since she was about fifteen.
The long version
She learned from her father, and that was already an exception: only men with tattooing ancestry were supposed to learn. Her own apprentices are women, which is a second exception, and her community accepted it.
She tattooed headhunters who had earned the marks. She never married and has no children, and under the inheritance rule that would end the line — which is why the apprentices matter and why she chose them the way she did.
Notes
Buscalan now receives a stream of visitors who come to be tattooed by her. Whether that is a living tradition or a queue is argued about by people who live there, and this site does not adjudicate it.
