Getting to Fort Lauderdale or Miami
By train — usually the cheapest way. Tri-Rail runs from
West Palm Beach down to both airports. For Fort Lauderdale, get off at the
FLL/Dania Beach station and take the free shuttle to the terminals. For Miami,
ride to Miami Central and take the free MIA Mover straight into the airport.

By car. Fort Lauderdale is about
50 miles from central West Palm Beach, Miami about 70 — roughly an hour and
an hour and a quarter in normal traffic. Budget for airport parking if you're
leaving the car for the trip; over a week it can eat a chunk of what you saved
on the fare.

biggest saving we found on a single departure date in the next
30 days, with that date printed next to it. It is a best case, not
an average, and the table inside each card lists every comparison we
made so you can see the range for yourself. The highlighted row is the one the
headline number comes from.
Every comparison prices the same departure
date at each airport. Comparing an airport's best day against another
airport's best day is a comparison of calendars, not airports.
Prices are the cheapest cached round-trip fare per
airport per date, from the Travelpayouts / Aviasales feed. A guide,
not a quote.
Time is counted the same way. Where
both airports had a fare on the same date, we compare total flying time too.
3 of 9 same-day checks were quicker from Fort
Lauderdale or Miami — often because DJT routes you through a connection
while the bigger airports fly direct.
“Cheapest days to fly” lists real
dates only. We show the days we actually have fares for in the next
30, cheapest first — not a calendar grid, because only about a
third of days have cached data and an empty grid would imply we checked days we
did not.
Where it gets less flattering:
It is not always cheaper. Across 9
same-day comparisons, leaving from Fort Lauderdale or Miami won
7 times and DJT won 2, the best DJT result
being $149 cheaper. The typical gap is
$82 — well below the headline, which is why the headline
says up to.
Coverage is thin. Only 7 of
19 destinations had a date in the next 30 days
where every airport had a cached fare. DJT is searched far less, so it has far
less data. Other cards show each airport's cheapest fare on its own
date, labelled as such — useful for a feel, not a like-for-like number.
Nothing here is a live quote. Fares move constantly. The
page rebuilds itself every Monday; always check the real price before booking.
There is a real reason the gap exists: DJT carries
no low-cost carriers, while Fort Lauderdale is a Spirit and JetBlue hub and
Miami a major international one.
The airport's IATA code changes from
PBI to DJT on August 18, 2026, so both
are searched and merged.
