Josh Jensen went looking for limestone in California because Burgundy grows on it, found a lime kiln site high on Mount Harlan in San Benito County, and planted pinot noir at 2,200 feet in 1975.

The story Tradition
Jensen worked harvests at the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and at Dujac, came home with an idea about soil, and spent a year with geological survey maps before buying. Marq de Villiers wrote a book about the place in 1993.
