Fog runs up the river gap from the Pacific most summer nights and sits until mid-morning. Sonoma planted pinot noir into that fog and the plantings tripled in a decade.

The story Cited

Pinot here went from about 4,000 acres to more than 12,000 by 2003, and the 1999 boundary revision was argued on where the fog actually reaches rather than on county lines.
