A Philadelphia sports bar and crab house that began as a Mayfair taproom in 1977 and now runs stadium, casino and airport rooms. Crabfries are what it is known for; Chickie's Wings come classic in six or ten, boneless in eight or twelve, in buffalo, sweet heat, dry rub or barbecue, with celery and blue cheese or ranch.

The story Cited · web-wp-chickies-and-petes
Peter and Henrietta Ciarrocchi ran a deli and in 1977 bought a small neighbourhood taproom called Wally's, at 4010 Robbins Avenue in Mayfair, northeast Philadelphia. Peter made three changes: he put stools at a standing-only bar, he ended the men-only rule, and he named the place for himself and his wife, whom everybody called Chickie.
Peter died in 1987 and his son Pete took it on. The Crabfries came from him — crinkle-cut fries dusted with a crab-boil spice blend and served with a warm white cheese sauce, no crab meat in them — and by 2008 the company counted five million orders sold. It trademarked "crab fries" in 2007 and sued over the phrase in 2011; one defendant settled out of court in August 2012. In February 2014 the company agreed to pay $8.5 million to settle a Department of Labor investigation and an employee suit over wage and hour law.
The expansion ran through stadiums: a building near Veterans Stadium in 1998, then Lincoln Financial Field, two casinos, and four rooms at Philadelphia International Airport. ESPN voted it the number one sports bar in North America in 2011.
Inference — the wing here is a sports-bar wing, and the sports bar is the point. Philadelphia's loudest wing institution was a radio eating contest rather than a fryer; this is where the same city went to sit down.
