Yesterday's donuts, sold cheap the next morning, usually bagged rather than boxed and usually the rings rather than the filled ones.
The story Tradition
Tradition holds — the rack exists because a donut's shelf life is one morning and a shop's costs are not. Raised rings go stale fastest; cake rings hold longer, which is part of why the cake side of the case is the one that turns up marked down.
This project has found no published study of American day-old donut pricing, and says so rather than estimating one.
