Dunkin's parent bought Mister Donut in 1990 and converted the American shops. In 2003 the Japanese Mister Donut launched pon de ring, the eight-ball chewy donut named after Brazilian pão de queijo, which travelled to Hawaii and then to the mainland as the mochi donut.
