Germany's warmest vineyards, in the Rhine rift between the Black Forest and the Vosges, facing Alsace across the river. Pinot in its three colours covers most of it.

Spätburgunder alone took 36.8% of Baden's vineyards in 2008 — 5,855 hectares — with grauburgunder and weissburgunder adding another fifth. The Kaiserstuhl, an old volcano on the valley floor, ripens the fullest of it.
