varietyChardonnay
Pinot's child by Gouais blanc, and the white grape sharing almost every hill in this directory. Where pinot goes, it follows — Burgundy, Champagne, the Willamette, Bien Nacido, Central Otago.
The story Cited
DNA work in the 1990s put the cross beyond argument: a pinot crossed with Gouais blanc produced chardonnay, aligoté, auxerrois, gamay, melon and eleven others. The Pinot parent need not have been pinot noir — any member of the family could have done it.
