A Charleston barbecue company that began in November 2006 when Aaron Siegel, a Culinary Institute-trained cook from Atlanta, turned Bunch's, a mid-century gas station at 1205 Ashley River Road in West Ashley, into Fiery Ron's Home Team BBQ. It cooks pulled pork, ribs, brisket and smoked chicken wings with an Alabama white sauce, runs a bar known for American whiskey and frozen drinks — the Game Changer is its signature — and books live Americana, blues and bluegrass. Seven locations by 2026: West Ashley, Sullivan's Island (2009), downtown Charleston (2016), Aspen (2016), Columbia (2019), Greenville (2021) and north Mount Pleasant (2022), with more than six hundred employees.

The story Cited · web-city-paper-home-team-20-years-2026

Aaron Siegel grew up in Atlanta without barbecue, went to the University of Georgia and then, in January 1997, to the Culinary Institute of America at Hyde Park; he interned at Nava in Atlanta under Kevin Rathbun, cooked in Aspen at a white-tablecloth restaurant and a burrito shop, and moved to Charleston in 2002. In 2006, with little money and much help from friends and family, he and his partners Taylor Garrigan, Tony McKie and Madison Ruckel opened in the old gas station on Ashley River Road; Garrigan was the opening sous chef and is an operating partner now. Sullivan's Island came in 2009; downtown at 126 Williman Street and Aspen, Colorado, in 2016; Columbia in 2019, Greenville in 2021, north Mount Pleasant in 2022. McKie curates the music. The company gives to Hogs for a Cause, has run the Rock the Block fundraiser since 2017 and started the Holy Smokes festival in 2021. 'There wasn't a place where you could go have a good time and hang out for a few hours, watch a game, catch a music show' with the family, Siegel told the City Paper before the twentieth anniversary in July 2026.

Low and slow, in the company's phrase, on smokers at each store: pulled pork, ribs, brisket, smoked wings tossed in Alabama white sauce — Tradition holds — a mayonnaise-based sauce from north Alabama — pulled-pork sandwiches, barbecue tacos, tots and queso, a kids' menu. The bar carries a wide American whiskey list, frozen cocktails and craft beer; live Americana, blues and bluegrass play at several stores.
