The story Cited · wp-fasnacht-doughnut
Fasnachts were made to empty the pantry of lard, sugar, fat and butter before Lent. Lancaster, York, Lebanon and Berks counties keep the day; most chain supermarkets in eastern Pennsylvania carry the donuts for it. Parts of Maryland call them kinklings or kuechles and bakeries there sell them only on that Tuesday.
Today Tradition
Churches and fire halls take orders by the dozen and stop when the batch is gone.
