The malasada came to Hawaii with Portuguese labourers from Madeira and the Azores, where the pastry belongs to Carnival. In the islands it is eaten year round and the Tuesday remains its day.
This project has not found a published history of when Malasada Day itself became a fixed Hawaiian observance, and does not date it.
