Cannon's BBQ and the pits around it.

A small barbecue house in a converted mobile home at a five-way crossroads in Little Mountain, Newberry County — the Dutch Fork, the German-settled land between the Broad and Saluda rivers where the Midlands mustard sauce is at home. The Cannons cooked over wood coals they burned down themselves and chopped the pork for a sauce with a concentrated yellow-mustard taste; the ribs fell off the bone, and the hash — the Midlands' stew of pork and onion, here tinged bright yellow with mustard — is what Robert Moss remembered it for. It has closed: Moss, writing in March 2020, called it recently closed.

The story Cited · web-destination-bbq-update-cannons

Little Mountain sits off Interstate 26 at exit 91, and Cannon's sat a few miles from the exit in a modified mobile home at a 'five points' intersection, with an overfilled dumpster and wood strewn about the lot when Destination BBQ came in March 2014 — the wood being the point, since the Cannons burned their own coals. The reviewers found the pork chopped finer than they liked, the ribs falling off the bone, the hash good and the sauce 'typical of the Midlands: mustard based', with a very concentrated yellow-mustard flavor. Robert Moss, telling the story of hash and rice in 2020, used it as his example of the mustard-yellow hash: 'At the recently-closed Cannon's BBQ in Little Mountain, S.C., the hash was tinged bright yellow with mustard.' Tradition holds — the Cannon brothers ran it about fifteen years and served the last plates on July 4, 2019, a closing the Columbia station WLTX reported that June.

Pork chopped and sauced with a yellow-mustard sauce, ribs that fell from the bone, and hash — pork and onion cooked down to a spoonable stew — tinged bright yellow with mustard and served over rice, all cooked over wood coals the family burned down on the lot. The building was a mobile home fitted out as a dining room, the lot a woodyard.
