Rosenberg had been selling food to factories and construction sites, and found donuts and coffee were the two things people bought. He built the shop around the pair, introduced a logo in 1953 and the mascot Dunkie in 1954, and started selling franchises in 1955. Johnny Spartos, one of the men running the Quincy shop, talked him into a donut with a handle, made for dunking. His son Bob became chief executive in 1963 at 25, the year the hundredth shop opened.
