An eye, a hand, a horn, a knot, a serpent. These are the marks that turn up in places that never met, and the interesting question is always which of those is transmission, which is two peoples arriving at the same shape, and which is nobody knowing. Each record says which, case by case, or says it is unknown.

Every glyph below is drawn for this atlas from published descriptions of the sign. None is traced from a photograph of any one object — an atlas of signs that copied its signs would be an atlas of somebody else's drawings. They go out under the project's licence.

A filled cell means a record on one side names the other in its own words. It is a map of the links this atlas has drawn, which is not the same as a map of the world's signs — a blank may mean nobody here has written the link yet.
