The design drawn inside a sungkhor and the rite that consecrates it are a lama's work and are not published for outsiders. This atlas prints what a named scholar's published description of a catalogued example shows — that the amulet is a geometric diagram with mantra formulas and images, consecrated, folded and wrapped in five-coloured cords — and prints no diagram, no mantra and no consecration formula. — James Gentry, Project Himalayan Art, Rubin Museum of Art, 2023, whose description stops at the same point; with the Tibetan Buddhist rule that the higher Tantras require empowerment ที่มา

| หมายเหตุ | No measurement is given for a folded amulet in the sources read. The Wellcome painting in holdings is a different, unfolded kind of Tibetan protective amulet, and its 29 × 21 cm is that object's size, not a sungkhor's. |

The sungkhor is what the window of an amulet box usually shows. In the gau Gentry catalogues — made in Kathmandu in the first decade of the 2000s, its contents handselected and consecrated by Chokling Rinpoche — the item behind the window is an amulet diagram wrapped in five-coloured cords, with three dark brown pills, while the other contents sit concealed behind it. Gentry adds that amulets of this kind can be included among the contents of amulet boxes or worn separately.
What they are carried against is listed plainly: Tibetans have used them to protect against misfortune during travel, injury during battle, illness, harmful spirits, and any other potential calamity.
Inference — the folding is the design, not the packaging. A diagram meant to be read would not be bound shut in thread; a diagram meant to be carried and not read would be. That is as far as this record goes, because the drawing inside and the rite said over it belong to a body of practice that is not published for outsiders.

Drawn, consecrated, folded, wrapped, given. This atlas does not print the drawing, the mantras written into it, or the consecration, and does not assemble a version of them from scattered sources. What is published is that the consecration is a contemplative ritual proceeding and that a named lama performed it for the catalogued example; Tibetan Buddhism holds that without having gone through initiation one is generally not allowed to practise the higher Tantras, and the making of these amulets sits inside that body of practice.

Worn at the neck, kept in a wallet or a pocket, and carried inside a gau across the Tibetan Buddhist world as of 2026, with the diaspora market since 1959 putting them in shops from Kathmandu to Europe and North America. A wrapped amulet sold over a counter carries no record of who consecrated it, which is the same problem the dzi market has, in paper and thread instead of stone.
