A private nonprofit foundation in northern Bogotá, created on 2 November 1972 with no owners and no shareholders, whose university hospital on Calle 119 was the first organisation in Colombia accredited by Joint Commission International as an academic medical centre. It has held that accreditation through six consecutive cycles.

Gloria González de Esguerra, Pedro Gómez Valderrama and the physicians Alfonso Esguerra Fajardo, Enrique Urdaneta Holguín, Alejandro Jiménez Arango and José Félix Patiño Restrepo founded the body in 1972. Its legal form — a foundation with no proprietors — is the fact that separates it from every listed hospital group elsewhere in this directory.

The JCI record is unusually complete because the hospital publishes it as a timeline rather than as a seal: first cycle 2010, then 2013, 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025. The hospital states it was the first in Colombia to be certified, in 2009, and that twenty-one of its clinical care programmes hold separate JCI certification as clinical care centres.

Inference — that is the difference between an accreditation and a certificate. A hospital-wide accreditation says the building meets a standard; twenty-one programme certifications say twenty-one named pathways were examined one at a time. Both are voluntary and the applicant pays.

In November 2016 the foundation opened a twelve-storey extension adding 148 hospitalisation beds.
