also: tummy tuck · lipectomy · mini abdominoplasty · panniculectomy
Price lists say tummy tuck. Hospital tables say lipectomy. Panniculectomy is the narrower operation - the apron of skin removed and nothing tightened - and is the version a health service occasionally funds after large weight loss.
Skin and fat are cut away from the lower abdomen through a long transverse incision above the pubis, the separated abdominal muscles are usually stitched back together, the navel is brought out through a new opening and the remaining skin is drawn down and closed. Drains are common. It is the largest of the routine cosmetic operations, and the one whose recovery most resembles general surgery.

a full abdominoplasty moves the navel and usually repairs the separated abdominal muscles; a mini does neither. The two words sit one line apart on most price lists and differ by a third of the price. Trade practice
The story Cited
Abdominoplasty is where cosmetic surgery meets the aftermath of bariatric surgery and of pregnancy, and where the queue at home and the fee abroad meet most directly: health services fund the operation narrowly, if at all, after large weight loss, and privately it is priced as a major procedure everywhere.
The published prices differ by a factor of ten and by more than that in what they cover. Yanhee in Bangkok prices a tummy tuck for a patient under 70 kilograms at 126,000 baht with three nights on the ward - a weight condition on the face of the price list. Premier Clinic in Prague prices abdominoplasty from 62,000 koruna and a mini from 47,000. Artplastica in Poland prices a full abdominoplasty at 26,000 zloty with the ward day charged separately at 800. The American society publishes 8,174 US dollars as a surgeon's fee alone.
Trade practice -- this is the operation on which the flight home matters most. It combines a long wound, drains, restricted movement and a patient who has been immobile, and the usual guidance on flying after abdominal surgery is measured in weeks rather than days. A package that ends at discharge leaves the flight, the accommodation and the drain removal to be arranged by somebody.
How it works Trade practice
General anaesthesia, three or more nights in published packages, drains for several days, compression garment for weeks. Patients walk bent forward at first because the skin has been pulled tight. Return to ordinary activity runs to six weeks and to lifting longer. Muscle repair, where done, adds pain and adds time. Where the operation follows major weight loss, the skin quality and the weight stability decide the result more than the technique.
Today Cited
Four published prices, read in September 2026, from Thailand, Czechia, Poland and the United States. The Thai one carries a body-weight condition, the Polish one excludes the ward, the Czech one begins with from, and the American one is a fee rather than a bill.

| about those numbers | Three nights is the ward stay printed beside the tummy tuck line on the Yanhee table read for this record, not a clinical standard. The ten-day figure is the CDC Yellow Book's guidance against flying for ten days after abdominal surgery; several plastic surgery bodies quote longer for this operation, and the record carries the shortest sourced figure rather than the longest unsourced one. Not to be confused with
- Liposuction — A tummy tuck cuts skin away and moves the navel; liposuction does neither. Bundled 'body contouring' quotes can mean either.
