Taipei's large hospitals are strung down the middle of the city from north to south. Taipei Veterans General Hospital, founded 1958 and running 3,000 beds, stands at 201 Shipai Road Section 2 in Beitou, at the northern end; National Taiwan University Hospital, founded on 18 June 1895 and now the island's largest public hospital with 2,400 beds, sits at 1 Changde Street in Zhongzheng, beside the old city; Taipei Medical University Hospital is at 252 Wuxing Street in Xinyi, east of the centre. The private cosmetic and dental shopfronts are not on those campuses at all: they are along Zhongxiao East Road and Dunhua South Road, in the shopping blocks between them.

Both of the big hospitals here predate the trade by a long way — one founded under Japanese rule in 1895, one built for veterans in 1958 — and neither was built to sell anything. Inference — that is the character of the Taipei cluster and the reason it is thin in this directory. Taiwan's medicine grew inside a national health insurance system serving its own population, and the foreign patient is an addition to a full hospital rather than the reason the hospital exists.

Trade practice — what the island is known for abroad is the screening package, the dental work, and a transplant and hepatology tradition built on decades of endemic hepatitis B. Prices are quoted well below Japanese, Korean and Singaporean equivalents for comparable work.

Inference — this project has not yet read a Taiwanese price off a page, has found no Taiwanese ministry count of foreign patients it could verify, and carries none of the figures that circulate for the island. This record is geography and hedge until one of those is read.

A Taipei medical centre runs an international medical service centre that takes an inquiry, quotes against the hospital's own published self-pay schedule, and arranges the interpreter. Taiwan's national health insurance does not cover a visiting foreigner, so the quote is the self-pay rate rather than the insured one, and those two numbers differ.

As of 16 September 2026 the harvest point for this hub sits in central Taipei, with a 20-kilometre radius reaching Beitou to the north, Xinyi to the east and the New Taipei hospitals across the river. No Taipei price and no Taiwanese patient count has been read off a page into this directory.
