A private nonprofit hospital in Morumbi, on the south side of São Paulo, inaugurated on 28 July 1971 and run by the Sociedade Beneficente Israelita Brasileira Albert Einstein, a charitable society founded in 1955 by members of the city's Jewish community. In 1999 it became the first health institution outside the United States accredited by Joint Commission International.

The society came first, in 1955; the hospital opened sixteen years later. It has kept the charitable form: a private nonprofit that also treats patients of the SUS, Brazil's public health system, and runs a social assistance programme in the Paraisópolis favela beside its own campus.

The 1999 JCI accreditation is the fact this hospital is cited for everywhere in the trade, and it is worth being exact about what it was: the first institution outside the United States to be accredited by the body, not the first accredited hospital in Latin America and not a ranking. JCI began accrediting outside the United States that year, and Einstein was the first through the door.

Inference — that sequence made Einstein the reference every later Latin American hospital's international department was measured against, and it is why a São Paulo hospital appears in a directory whose Brazilian traffic is mostly Brazilians returning from abroad rather than foreigners arriving.

Newsweek placed it among the top thirty hospitals in the world in 2024. It runs a nursing school, a medical school since 2016 and a health-management degree.

Trade practice — Einstein's international work is referral rather than package: complex oncology, transplantation and cardiology reached through consultants and insurers rather than through a price page. Brazil's inbound flow is regional — the Southern Cone and Portuguese-speaking Africa — and its outbound flow, of Brazilians going elsewhere for cosmetic and fertility work, is larger.
