a procedureResidential addiction treatment
also: rehab · inpatient rehabilitation · detox and rehab · residential treatment programme
The trade says rehab and prices it by the programme: 28 days, 30 days, twelve weeks. Detox is the medical part and is sometimes sold on its own; the rest is therapy, accommodation and time.
A stay of several weeks in a residential centre: medically supervised withdrawal where it is needed, then individual and group therapy, structured days, and an aftercare plan. The unit of sale is the programme or the week, not the procedure. Accommodation, food and staff time are most of the cost, which is why the price maps onto the local cost of living more directly than any surgical price does.

detox and rehab are different products. Detox is a supervised withdrawal measured in days; a rehabilitation programme is measured in weeks, and a price for one is not a price for the other. Trade practice
The story Cited
Residential addiction treatment crossed borders for the same reason cosmetic surgery did, and earlier: the product is staff-intensive, it is rarely funded, and the price gap between a Thai centre and a British one is a multiple rather than a margin.
The Dawn in Chiang Mai publishes a bracket rather than a price - 10,000 to 20,000 US dollars for a month's stay - and publishes both lists that matter. Included: private en suite accommodation, three meals, medically supervised detox where needed, two individual therapy sessions and fifteen hours of group therapy a week, 24-hour nursing, daily wellness activities, weekly outings, airport transfers and lifetime weekly aftercare groups. Excluded: international flights, visa extension fees, medications, TMS therapy, off-site medical services, unrelated transport and travel or health insurance.
The Priory in the United Kingdom publishes named programmes with prices: Transform 28, a 28-day inpatient hospital programme with therapy, twelve months of aftercare and optional detox, from 21,813 pounds; Reset, a seven to ten day detox-only programme with medical supervision, accommodation and meals, from 6,540; Flourish, residential recovery without detox, from 4,410 for fourteen days; individual outpatient therapy at 155 pounds a session.
Trade practice -- two things make this trade different from surgical travel. The first is that the treatment has no discharge date that ends it: relapse is part of the condition being treated, and every centre's aftercare promise is a promise made at a distance once the patient flies home. The second is the visa. A month or three months in a country on a visitor entry is a question for that country's immigration rules, and the centre that quotes the programme is rarely the body that answers it - The Dawn's own exclusion list puts visa extension fees on the patient.
How it works Trade practice
Admission after a telephone or video assessment; detox first where the substance requires it, under nursing observation; then a daily timetable of individual and group therapy running several weeks. Families are involved by video across time zones. Discharge comes with an aftercare plan that usually means online groups, because the therapist is in another country. Medication prescribed abroad may not be dispensable at home, which is a cross-border prescription question rather than a clinical one.
Today Cited
Two published prices sit on this record, from Thailand and the United Kingdom, read in September 2026. A third country could not be sourced to a provider's own published tariff: the South African and Spanish centres checked for this record publish ranges through third-party guides rather than prices of their own.

This page describes a service and how it is priced. It is not clinical advice, and it does not say where anyone should be treated.

| about those numbers | 28 days is the programme length both published tariffs on this record are built around - The Dawn quotes by the month, the Priory's Transform 28 by the four weeks. It is a commercial unit rather than a clinical one; the evidence on how long residential treatment should run is not settled by either page. (2026-09-16) · source |

Not to be confused with
- Panchakarma — Both are long residential stays sold by the week in the same part of the world. One treats dependence with therapy and nursing; the other is an Ayurvedic course of oil treatments and diet.
