a procedureCoronary angioplasty and stent
also: PCI · percutaneous coronary intervention · balloon angioplasty · stenting
Cardiologists say PCI. Package pages say angioplasty and put the angiogram in front of it, because the diagnostic catheter and the treatment are usually sold as one admission.
A catheter is threaded from the wrist or the groin to the heart, dye shows where a coronary artery is narrowed, a balloon opens it and a metal mesh tube is left behind to hold it open. Two nights in hospital on the Bangkok packages read for this record. The stent itself is a manufactured device and is priced as one.

Transradial means the catheter goes in at the wrist, transfemoral at the groin. Thai package pages price the two differently, the wrist slightly higher. Trade practice
The story Cited · bangkokhospital-heart-packages
The device is the story, as it is with the knee implant.
Bangkok Heart Hospital publishes the diagnostic catheter and the treatment as a ladder: coronary angiography alone at 62,100 baht as a day case through the wrist, 66,700 through the groin with a night, 69,000 through the wrist with a night; angiography with percutaneous coronary intervention at 299,000 baht transfemoral or 322,000 transradial, two nights either way. Prices stated valid until 31 October 2026.
Then the exclusion list, which names the thing the patient came for: the package price does not include "special device used during procedure". A stent is a special device. So is a second one, and a third, and most of the pressure-wire and imaging equipment a modern intervention uses. The published price buys the room, the team and the nights; the metal is a separate line that the page does not number.
Trade practice — the number of stents is not known until the catheter is in, which is the reason hospitals give for pricing them outside the package, and it is also why a quoted price for this operation is a floor rather than a figure.
Where the device price is regulated, it is regulated separately from the procedure. Medanta in Gurugram publishes an index of its coronary stent prices alongside the relevant notification of India's price regulator, one document per revision going back years — a hospital publishing what the metal costs because the state requires the ceiling to be visible. No figure from those files is carried here: they are linked documents rather than a page this record could read.
How it works Trade practice
Local anaesthetic at the puncture site, sedation, a catheter to the coronary ostium, contrast, balloon, stent, a plug or pressure at the puncture site, a night or two of monitoring, then dual antiplatelet medication for months — which is a prescription the travelling patient fills at home and no package read here includes.
The state versions price the doctor, not the device. The Australian Medicare Benefits Schedule sets item 38307 — percutaneous coronary intervention on one coronary vascular territory, including the angiography and "transluminal insertion of one or more stents" — at $2,121.75, with a 75% benefit of $1,591.35, and the descriptor excludes aftercare. One territory: a patient with three diseased arteries generates more than one item.
Today Cited
As of 17 September 2026 the published Thai package price for angiography with intervention is 299,000 baht through the groin and 322,000 through the wrist, two nights, with the stent outside the package as a special device. The Australian schedule fee for the cardiologist's service on one artery is $2,121.75. Ireland's own admitted-patient price for a percutaneous cardiac intervention at minor complexity is EUR 9,887, and EUR 42,060 at major complexity.

| about those numbers | Two nights is the stay named in the Bangkok Heart Hospital angiography-with-intervention packages read for this record; the diagnostic catheter alone is sold as a day case or one night on the same page. The ten-day figure is the CDC's guidance not to fly for ten days after chest surgery, applied here to a chest procedure; a groin or wrist puncture is not a sternotomy and cardiologists' advice varies, which is why this row is hedged. One week is the span usually quoted for return to ordinary activity after an uncomplicated intervention. (2026-09-17) · source |

Not to be confused with
- Coronary artery bypass grafting — Angioplasty opens an artery from inside through a puncture; bypass sews a new route around it through an opened chest. Hospital pages sell both under heart treatment.
