a procedureDental crown

also: cap · porcelain fused to metal crown · zirconia crown · e.max crown

Patients say cap. Price lists say crown and then name a material, because the material is the price.

A tooth is reduced to a stump, an impression or scan is taken, a laboratory makes a cover in metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal, lithium disilicate or zirconia, and it is cemented or screwed on. Two visits usually, or one where the clinic mills the crown on site. It is the commonest single line on a dental travel bill because almost every other treatment ends with one.

Root. crown: Latin corona, a wreath or circlet, used in anatomy for the part of a tooth above the gum long before it named the thing fitted over it. Zirconia is from zircon, the mineral, by way of Persian zargun, gold-coloured; e.max is a brand of lithium disilicate glass-ceramic.
A crown fitted to a natural tooth and a crown fitted to an implant are the same object with different prices; the implant crown usually carries the abutment's price beside it. Trade practice

The story Cited · bidc-fees

Four price lists, four ways of writing the same tooth.

Bangkok International Dental Center runs by material: porcelain fused to non-precious alloy 13,000 baht, to palladium 20,000, to gold 25,000, all-ceramic e.max 19,500 for one to five teeth and 18,500 for six or more, zirconia 21,000 and 20,000 on the same sliding scale, a one-day all-ceramic crown 25,000. The discount for the sixth tooth is the page telling a reader what kind of patient it is written for.

Medicare Dental Clinic in Budapest prints two numbers per crown and means their sum: porcelain fused to metal €202 plus €134 of laboratory fee, zirconia €226 plus €152, full porcelain €237 plus €157.

Sani Dental Group in Los Algodones runs from an all-metal crown at $120 to porcelain-fused-to-gold at $600, with a "US COST" column beside each — $400 against the metal crown, $1,700 against the gold — which is the seller's own comparison and names no source.

Index Medica in Kraków does the same thing in the opposite direction, printing what it calls an average UK price beside its own: £900 against its £355 for a metal-based porcelain crown, £1,200 against its £429 for full-ceramic zirconia.

Inference — three of the four pages sell the crown against a number from the patient's home country that the clinic itself supplies. The one state tariff read for this record — the English NHS band 3 charge of £332.10, which covers a crown along with dentures, bridges and orthodontics — is the only figure on this page whose author is not also the seller.

How it works Cited · nhs-dental-charges

Priced by material first and by count second. Where a clinic prices implants, the implant crown appears as its own line: 25,000 baht in Bangkok on every implant row, $720 in Los Algodones including the abutment. Where a clinic prices laboratory work separately, as Budapest does, the crown's real price is two lines added together.

In England the patient's share is not a price at all but a band: a flat £332.10 for band 3 treatment, one charge however many crowns the course contains, with the rest met by the health service. A private crown in the same country is quoted per tooth and is not on that scale.

Today Cited

As of 17 September 2026 a single crown is published at 13,000 to 25,000 baht in Bangkok, €336 to €394 including laboratory fee in Budapest, $120 to $600 in Los Algodones and £355 to £429 in Kraków, against an English NHS band 3 patient charge of £332.10 for a course of treatment that may contain several.
