Care Abroad

a cluster · PolandWarsaw

also: Warszawa

Clinics quote a district — Śródmieście, Mokotów, Wola — the way a London clinic quotes a postcode.

A capital of 1,866,729 people at the end of 2025, laid out in 18 districts, with the private clinics that take foreign patients concentrated in central Śródmieście and in Mokotów, Wola and Ochota around it. Warsaw sells dentistry and cosmetic and bariatric surgery to British, Irish and German patients on a two-hour flight, and it is also a departure point: the city is in a country whose own residents travel out for care its law does not provide.

The story Cited · wp-medical-travel

Poland arrived in the trade the way Hungary did, through the price step that opened when the border did, and then through EU membership in 2004, which put Polish clinics inside the same regulatory market as the patients flying to them. Directive 2011/24/EU on patients' rights in cross-border healthcare gives an insured EU patient a reimbursement route at the home tariff, with prior authorisation required for some categories.

The outward flow is the part most directories leave out. Roughly 7,000 Polish women a year travel to the United Kingdom for abortion care, where it is provided free through the National Health Service — a figure the encyclopaedia that carries it attributes to a named reference rather than to a statistics office, and a flow driven by law rather than by price.

Inference — a city can be both ends of the same subject at once, and Warsaw is. Somebody lands at Chopin for a dental arch that costs a third of the Dublin price on the same morning somebody else takes off for a procedure that is lawful at the other end and not at this one. The two journeys share an airport and almost nothing else, and a directory that only counted the arrivals would describe half a city.

How it works Trade practice

Trade practice — the Warsaw clinic sells in English by email, quotes per unit, asks for a deposit and books the consultation and the procedure into the same trip. Dentistry runs on the usual two-visit implant course. Bariatric and cosmetic work is quoted as a package with the nights named, and the exclusions are the usual ones: imaging, laboratory work, a complication, and the night past the package.

Today Cited

As of 16 September 2026 this record carries no price row for Warsaw and no count of arrivals. The clinic pages read for this batch quoted ranges without a date.
