Sri Lanka's private hospitals sit almost entirely in Colombo and its suburbs, and several of them cluster in Narahenpita — Asiri, Asiri Surgical, Oasis and Ninewells among them. Nawaloka stands on Sir James Peiris Mawatha at Slave Island in Colombo 2; Asiri Central is at 110 Norris Canal Road in Maligawatte, Colombo 10; Lanka Hospitals is on Vijaya Kumaratunga Mawatha at Polhengoda junction, in Colombo 5. Durdans and Hemas fill in between. Nothing here is more than five kilometres from anything else.

Sri Lanka runs a free public health service its own population uses, and the private hospitals sit beside rather than instead of it: more comfortable, more expensive, and concentrated in the capital and its suburbs in a way that leaves the rest of the island to the state.

Trade practice — the cross-border flow into Colombo is regional and short-haul rather than intercontinental. The Maldives is a ninety-minute flight away with no tertiary hospital of its own, and Colombo is where a Maldivian cardiac or orthopaedic case has long been sent; Indian patients cross for some work in the other direction. This project has read no register that quantifies either, and carries both as the trade's account.

Inference — the compactness is the useful fact for a directory. Five or six private hospitals inside a few kilometres of central Colombo means one tight harvest catches the whole private sector of a country, which is not true of any other hub in this batch.

Some hospitals maintain liaison arrangements for Maldivian patients and for the state schemes that refer them.

No Colombo price has been read off a page into this directory, no Sri Lankan facility is on this project's cast list, and no inbound count for the country has been verified.
