RAF-uls, for Stamford Raffles, whose name is on half the institutions in Singapore. The hospital is the group's one hospital; the group is 106 clinics, and the clinics came first.

A 380-bed private hospital at the corner of North Bridge Road and Ophir Road in Singapore, opened on 31 March 2001 on the site of the converted Blanco Court. It is the hospital of Raffles Medical Group, a company listed on the Singapore Exchange that began as two clinics in 1976 and now runs 106 multi-disciplinary clinics in Singapore and hospitals and medical centres in China, Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia and Hong Kong.

The story Cited

Loo Choon Yong and Alfred Loh founded the practice in 1976. The order of growth matters: clinics first, then a hospital, then clinics abroad. Raffles Medical is a primary-care company that built a hospital, and it shows in what it sells and how it prices it.

The group reported S$723.8 million of revenue in 2021 with S$83.7 million of net income, employs more than 2,900 people, and runs the airport clinics at Changi and at Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok. In China it has tertiary hospitals in Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing; in Vietnam it took a majority stake in American International Hospital in 2023.

Inference — a hospital owned by a clinic company prices like a clinic company. Raffles is one of the few institutions in this directory that sells screening across a counter at a fixed, published, online-payable price, and it is the only one whose published price list runs from a statutory medical examination for a migrant domestic worker at S$52.30 to a women's screening package at S$563.16. The same retail machinery handles both.

How it works Cited

Health screening is sold through the group's own online store as well as through the hospital. The published entry package, Raffles Classic, is S$138. Raffles Treasure Ladies is S$361.31 and adds a gynaecologist consultation, a Pap smear and a transvaginal pelvic ultrasound; Raffles Treasure Ladies Plus is S$563.16 and adds screening mammography and breast ultrasound. The Plus package states its own exclusions plainly: not for women under forty, and not for women with a pre-existing gynaecological or breast condition. The base Ladies package excludes women under twenty-five on the same principle.

Those exclusions are the interesting half. A screening package is priced on the assumption that the buyer is well, and the terms say so.

Surgery is not priced on the group's public pages. Singapore's Ministry of Health publishes hospital bill data and fee benchmarks separately, which is where a figure for an operation at a named Singapore hospital comes from.

Today Cited

As of 17 September 2026 the hospital carries 380 beds and 24 specialist centres, and the group runs 106 clinics in Singapore with operations in China, Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia and Hong Kong. Screening prices are published and payable online; no surgical price is published.

The exclusions are the point: a screening price assumes a well buyer, and both packages say in terms that a woman with an existing condition is outside them. The Plus package also asks that mammography and breast ultrasound wait at least six weeks after a second COVID-19 vaccine dose.
