The largest city in Quintana Roo, on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, built in the 1970s as a resort and now carrying a second trade: dentistry and cosmetic surgery sold to people who were flying here anyway. It is the only hub in this directory whose international air connections were built for a holiday market and then inherited by a clinical one.

Cancún's medical sector sits on infrastructure it did not have to pay for. The flights, the hotels, the English-speaking service economy and the transfers all existed for the resort. What was added was hospitals and surgeries willing to schedule around a week's stay.

Hospital Galenia, the city's main private hospital for international patients, publishes an unusually full account of its own credentials: Joint Commission International accreditation; Accreditation Canada's Qmentum International at Platinum level, which it states includes accreditation for international health-travel services; certification by Mexico's Consejo de Salubridad General, a body reporting directly to the presidency; and the Distintivo Turismo de Salud awarded by the federal tourism ministry, SECTUR, to institutions meeting a service standard for foreign patients.

The same page is a lesson in reading one. Beside three of those credentials the hospital prints its own validity dates: "Vigencia hasta Noviembre del 2021" for the Joint Commission line, "Vigencia hasta Marzo 2022" for the Canadian one, "Vigencia hasta 20 de octubre del 2020" for the national certification. Read on 16 September 2026, all three had passed. This directory records what the page says and the date it was read, and nothing about what is or is not current.

Trade practice — the dental operators here run the same price lists as their border-town branches. Sani Dental Group lists clinics in Los Algodones, Cancún and Playa del Carmen and publishes one price page across all three, with no line saying which town a figure belongs to.

The pattern is a week: fly in, consult on the first working day, treat, recover in a hotel rather than a ward, fly home. That works for dentistry, for day-case cosmetic surgery and for short bariatric stays; it does not work for anything that needs a surgeon's eye at six weeks. Hospitals bill in pesos and dollars and quote on request. The dental groups publish, the hospitals do not.

As of 16 September 2026 Hospital Galenia's accreditations page lists four separate schemes and three lapsed validity dates, and the largest dental group in the city prices its work on a page shared with two other towns.
