Anadolu is Anatolia — the Asian landmass Türkiye sits on. The hospital is not in Istanbul: it stands at Gebze in Kocaeli province, on the D-100 at the Bayramoğlu exit, about an hour east of the city.
A 209-bed hospital at Gebze in Kocaeli, opened on 12 February 2005 by the Anadolu Foundation and affiliated since 2002 with Johns Hopkins Medicine International. It began as a cancer centre and works as a general hospital built around one: bone marrow transplantation, radiation oncology, haematology. It holds Joint Commission International accreditation first granted in 2007 and renewed six times since.
The story Cited
The Anadolu Foundation, the charitable arm of the Anadolu Group, built the hospital at Gebze rather than in Istanbul, on the highway between the city and the Marmara industrial belt and near Sabiha Gökçen airport. Its clinical identity was set at the start: a cancer centre with 209 beds, 59 intensive care beds and eight operating rooms, able to run up to 22 stem cell transplants at once.
The Johns Hopkins Medicine International affiliation dates from 2002, three years before the doors opened. Inference — the sequence is the point. The American name was contracted before the building existed, which is what an affiliation of this kind is for: it is a recognisable mark attached to a hospital nobody abroad had yet heard of.
JCI accreditation followed in 2007 and has been re-surveyed every three years since, seven awards in all. The cancer centre also holds Planetree Gold certification for person-centred care and is a designated clinical cancer centre of the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes. The hospital states it treats patients from more than 65 countries.
How it works Trade practice
The hospital sits outside Istanbul, so the journey has a road leg in it that an Istanbul hospital's does not: transfers from either Istanbul airport are part of what the international office arranges rather than a taxi ride. Trade practice — an oncology enquiry here is document-heavy — pathology slides, imaging, prior treatment records — and the estimate follows a tumour board rather than a price list.
Nothing is published as a price. The hospital's quality pages carry the accreditations; the treatment pages carry no figure.
Today Cited
As of 17 September 2026 the hospital states its seventh consecutive JCI accreditation, the Johns Hopkins Medicine affiliation, Planetree Gold certification, ESMO and Association of European Cancer Institutes recognition for the cancer centre, and the Türkiye international health tourism authorisation certificate. The 209-bed figure and the 59 intensive care beds are the counts carried in the encyclopaedia entry rather than a current statement from the hospital.
