The first hospital of the Memorial Healthcare Group, opened in 2000 on Piyalepaşa Bulvarı in Şişli, Istanbul, and the first hospital in Türkiye to take Joint Commission International accreditation — the 21st in the world, by the group's own count. This record is the Şişli hospital and pins it; where a figure belongs to the whole group of twelve hospitals, the record says so.

Memorial Şişli opened in 2000. Its IVF, andrology and genetics centre followed, then the heart health centre, then the JCI certificate that the group's founder Turgut Aydın still leads with: "We accomplished great things with pride of obtaining JCI Accreditation Certificate, which is the international quality certificate in the Health Care, as first in Turkey and 21st in the world."

In March 2004 the hospital took the first Ministry of Health licence granted to a private Turkish hospital for liver and kidney transplantation and the laboratory services that go with them. Its transplant centre, its tissue typing and immunology laboratory — the first private Turkish laboratory accredited by the European Federation for Immunogenetics — and its IVF laboratory, accredited by TÜRKAK to ISO 15189, are the units the group dates its firsts from.

The group grew outward: Ataşehir, Antalya, Diyarbakır, Kayseri, Ankara, Bahçelievler, and information offices in Baku, Tirana, Sarajevo, Tashkent, Abuja, Constanța and Northern Cyprus. Inference — the office list is a map of where the patients come from, and it points east and south rather than west.

The group reports patients from 167 countries. That is a count of countries, not of patients, and the group publishes neither a patient count nor a price.

An enquiry reaches the group rather than the hospital, through one of the overseas information offices or the website, and is placed at whichever of the twelve hospitals holds the programme. Trade practice — transplant and fertility work, which is what Memorial is known for abroad, is quoted after records are read and not from a list.

As of 17 September 2026 the group states 12 hospitals, 92 medical units, more than 7,300 employees and more than 1,510 beds across the group, and patients from 167 countries. The Şişli hospital is reported elsewhere at 252 beds on a 53,000 square metre site; that figure is not on the hospital's own page read here and is carried as unverified.
