a procedureDental implant

also: implant fixture · endosseous implant · single tooth implant

Clinics say implant and mean one of three things: the screw in the bone, the screw plus the part that sticks through the gum, or the whole tooth. The price list usually means the first.

A titanium or ceramic screw is placed in the jaw where a tooth was. Bone grows onto it over months; then an abutment is screwed into it and a crown is cemented or screwed onto that. The surgery is a clinic appointment under local anaesthetic. The waiting is the part that decides how many flights a foreign patient takes.

Root. implant: Latin in- plus plantare, to plant. Fixture is the trade's own word for the screw, from Latin figere, to fix. Osseointegration — the bone growing onto titanium, which is what the waiting months are for — is Latin os, bone, plus integrare, to make whole.
Three parts, three prices: fixture, abutment, crown. A page that quotes one number for an implant is quoting one of the three unless it says otherwise. Trade practice

The story Cited

The implant is the dental version of the knee implant trap, and the price pages say so plainly enough that nobody has to be caught.

Bangkok International Dental Center prices the fixture and the crown in two separate columns. On 16 September 2026 a SIC Swiss Invent fixture is 35,000 baht, a Straumann Roxolid SLA 54,000, a Nobel Biocare titanium 55,000 and a Straumann BLX 70,000 — and in every row the implant crown is a further 25,000 baht. The brand of the screw moves the price by a factor of two at one clinic, on one day.

In Budapest, Medicare Dental Clinic splits it three ways and prints the lab fee as its own line: a NeoDent or Alpha Bio implant at €381 plus €255 lab, a Straumann or Nobel at €594 plus €398 lab, an abutment at €258 for the first pair and €393 for the second, and a zirconia crown at €226 plus €152 lab. Four lines to finish one tooth.

In Los Algodones, Sani Dental Group lists a titanium implant at $890, with MXN 17,800 beside it, and a standard implant crown including the abutment at $720. Beside each the clinic prints a "US COST" column — $1,290 for the implant, $1,650 for the crown — which is the seller's own comparison and carries no source.

Indexmedica in Kraków is the one page read for this batch that resolves the ambiguity in its own wording: an implant screw at £575, and separately an implant "complete" at £1,450, described as "including implant screw, healing ring, individual abutment and full-ceramic zirconoxide crown".

Inference — the £575 and the £1,450 are the same clinic quoting the same tooth twice. Every comparison a reader makes between two countries is only worth the part-count behind each number.

How it works Trade practice

One visit to place the fixture, a wait of months while bone integrates, a second visit for the abutment and crown. Clinics selling to foreign patients compress this by fitting a temporary and finishing on a second trip, or by loading the implant immediately where the bone allows. Bone grafting and sinus lifting, needed where the ridge is thin, are priced separately — Budapest lists sinus lifting at €409 per quadrant and bone augmentation at €302 plus the cost of the graft material.

Today Cited

As of 16 September 2026 a single implant fixture is published at 35,000 to 70,000 baht in Bangkok, €381 plus a €255 lab fee in Budapest, $890 in Los Algodones and £575 in Kraków — with the abutment and the crown extra in each case, and only the Kraków page quoting a finished tooth as its own line at £1,450.
