also: AHD · المستشفى الأمريكي دبي

The name is a standard, not an ownership: the hospital is Emirati, owned by the Mohamed & Obaid Al Mulla Group, and American means its physicians are American board certified or equivalent.

A 254-bed private acute general medical and surgical hospital in Dubai, established in 1996 by the Mohamed & Obaid Al Mulla Group, working in more than 40 specialties with seven satellite clinics across the emirate. It was the first hospital in the Middle East awarded Joint Commission International accreditation, and the inaugural member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network.

The story Cited · ahd-about

The hospital states its firsts plainly: first in the Middle East with the JCI, first laboratory in the region's private sector accredited by the College of American Pathologists, the inaugural member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, the first cancer programme in Dubai offering one-stop care, the first private UAE hospital with an American Heart Association international training centre, the only facility outside the United States with ultrasound practice accreditation from the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine in abdomen and breast, the first facility in Dubai to run a fourth-generation da Vinci Xi robot.

Inference — every one of those firsts names an American body. That is what an Emirati hospital built in 1996 was for: a recognisable standard for a population of expatriates and regional patients who would otherwise fly to London or Houston. The Gulf is the largest source market in this whole subject, and Dubai's project has been to keep some of its own outflow at home while attracting the region's.

Dubai reported more than 691,000 international health travellers in 2023. That is an emirate-wide count of arrivals stating a health purpose, not a count of operations and not this hospital's.

How it works Cited

This is the hospital in the batch that publishes its exclusion lists rather than its prices, and the exclusions are priced where the package is not. The normal delivery package covers delivery, the delivery suite, two blood counts, blood typing, newborn screening, two days' post-delivery room and nursery, obstetrician rounding for two days, paediatrician fees, the six-week postpartum visit, the baby's one-week clinic visit and an audiogram. Outside it: epidural anaesthesia at Dhs 3,770, a twin surcharge of Dhs 2,050, routine medication above Dhs 450 and consumables above Dhs 1,500, baby vaccines at about Dhs 300, circumcision, neonatal intensive care, any resuscitation, and a relative staying overnight at Dhs 193 a day with meals extra.

The package page also states two terms a reader of this directory should read together: the self-pay patient pays the whole package price in advance at sign-up, and a switch from a normal delivery to a caesarean is charged at the caesarean price. The bundle is fixed; the bill is not.
